Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Industrial AI Center Win First Place in the 2026 PHM Data Challenge

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, in collaboration with Industrial AI Center, won first place in the 2026 PHM North America Data Challenge Competition. Competing as Team soilhelp, the joint team achieved 1st place on both the test leaderboard (1st out of 42 teams) and the validation leaderboard (1st out of 22 teams). The team received the award at the 18th Annual Conference of the Prognostics and Health Management Society in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 2026 PHM Data Challenge focused on estimating gear tooth damage progression using low-cost sensor measurements, including vibration, rotational speed, torque, and temperature. The challenge required participants to develop models capable of estimating damage severity without access to ground-truth damage labels for the test data.

Congratulations to the winning team members (Yoshiki Kato, Koji Wakimoto, Takahiko Masuzaki, Nobuaki Tanaka, Toshiyuki Kuriyama, and Hanqi Su). This achievement demonstrates the successful research collaboration between Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and the IAI Center in industrial AI and PHM.
